Open Question: Is a rail pass necessary for tourists traveling to Tokyo?

8 September 2010, 1:36 pm

Hi there! I am going to Tokyo for 2 weeks, and I keep getting conflicting information on whether or not I should buy a rail pass. I plan to stay mostly in Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Roppongi...but I will be taking at least one day each to go to Asakusa and Kyoto. I will also be arriving & departing at Narita airport. I was told the rail pass doesn't work for the subways, which is what I'd be using mostly (apparently). Any advice? Is a 1 week pass for $300/2 week pass for $500 worth it? Or should I just pay daily? I've never been before and don't know the city AT ALL, so any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you! Also! What is the best method of transportation to get to my hotel in Shinjuku from the Narita airport?... Read More »
