Open Question: What's a good place in Japan that has both the fast-paced city life, and easy access to the countryside?

I love Japan and plan to go there to study abroad in the next year or two, and maybe even one day live there. I love city life and I love country life, so what's a good place in Japan where I can live in the city, but escape to the country on holidays or in free time easily?
